AI summaries are coming to Notepad
By Emma Roth via The Verge
Microsoft is testing AI-powered summaries in Notepad, allowing users to highlight text, right-click, and select "Summarize" or use the Ctrl + M shortcut to generate concise summaries.
Users must be signed into a Microsoft account to access the AI features, which can also be disabled via app settings.
The Snipping Tool is getting a "draw & hold" feature that automatically straightens lines, arrows, rectangles, or ovals when the cursor is held slightly longer.

Meta plans to test and tinker with X's community notes algorithm
By Ashley Belanger via Ars Technica
Meta will begin testing X's Community Notes algorithm on March 18 across Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, starting with around 200,000 contributors and opening a waitlist for eligible users.
The initiative aims to enable crowdsourced fact-checking, though notes correcting misleading ads will be excluded, and the visibility of flagged posts will remain unaffected.
Meta plans to tweak X’s algorithm over time to create its own version, while addressing concerns about potential manipulation and bias in the fact-checking process.
SoftBank bets $130mn on robot-assisted solar farm company
By Jamie Smyth via Financial Times
SoftBank has invested $130 million in Terabase Energy, a California-based company developing robotic and AI systems to accelerate and reduce the cost of solar farm construction.
Terabase's robotics-assisted assembly line can install 2,000 solar panels in eight hours, doubling productivity and improving safety by reducing manual labor.
The investment will help Terabase scale up operations for large-scale solar farms in 2026, aligning with the rising demand for renewable energy amid labor shortages and surging energy needs from sectors like AI data centers.
