US govt officials' communications compromised in recent telecom hack
By Sergiu Gatlan via BleepingComputer
Chinese hackers affiliated with the PRC breached multiple U.S. broadband providers, compromising the private communications of a limited number of government officials and stealing customer call records and law enforcement request data.
The hacking group Salt Typhoon, active since at least 2019, reportedly maintained access for months, enabling the collection of extensive internet traffic and targeting federal systems used for court-authorized network wiretapping.
Similar attacks by Volt Typhoon exploited a Versa Director zero-day, compromising ISPs and MSPs in the U.S. and India, further highlighting the persistent threat posed by China-backed groups targeting critical infrastructure and government entities.
Trump victory could ease regulatory path for Musk’s robotaxi, but hurdles remain
By Chris Kirkham via Reuters
Elon Musk’s influence under Trump’s administration could streamline federal regulation for Tesla’s robotaxi ambitions, potentially bypassing state-level laws that Musk has criticized as fragmented and burdensome.
Despite Musk's vision, Tesla’s autonomous vehicle testing lags far behind competitors like Waymo, with limited progress in California, the largest U.S. market for autonomous vehicles.
Technological and legal challenges remain significant for Tesla, including unresolved issues around crash liability, insurance for fully autonomous vehicles, and proving the safety of its Full Self-Driving system.

Stop blaming your problems on hybrid work. Outdated tech is the real issue
By Russ Kennedy via Fast Company
Hybrid work models improve employee morale and productivity, with over 80% of hybrid workers highly engaged, but outdated technology often prevents organizations from fully leveraging these benefits.
Reliable access to cloud-based infrastructure and AI-driven tools is essential for hybrid teams, ensuring data accuracy, seamless collaboration, and robust security across remote and in-office environments.
Strategic use of AI workflows and clear governance policies empowers employees to innovate and stay productive, highlighting that technology—not hybrid work—is the key to overcoming workplace challenges.
Live Scam Detection in calls rolling out to Pixel 6-9 Phone app
By Abner Li via 9to5Google
Google’s Scam Detection is rolling out to Pixel 6-9 devices, using on-device machine learning to identify scam call patterns and alert users with audio, haptic, and visual warnings during calls.
The feature is off by default, ensures no conversation data is stored or shared, and can be enabled in the Google Phone app settings, providing options to end suspicious calls or mark them as safe.
Powered by Gemini Nano on Pixel 9 and similar models for older devices, the rollout includes English-speaking beta users in the U.S., complementing Google Play Protect's live threat detection for malicious apps.

Apple updates Logic Pro with new sounds and search features
By Andrew Marino via The Verge
Apple updates Logic Pro for Mac and iPad with features like plug-in and source search, the ability to reorder channel strips, and new analog-inspired sounds, including the Modular Melodies library and the Quantec Room Simulator (QRS) plug-in.
The Mac version now allows users to share songs to the Voice Memos app, while the iPad version supports adding local third-party sample folders to the browser for easier integration of external audio files.
These updates, available at no additional cost, enhance the workflow and toolset for Logic Pro users, making the platform more efficient and versatile for digital audio production.
