Let’s dive in

You Switched to Claude Over Surveillance Fears. Now It Wants Your Passport

By Jose Antonio Lanz via Decrypt

  • Anthropic has begun requiring some Claude users to verify their identity with a government-issued photo ID and, in some cases, a live selfie, a new policy that contrasts with rivals and has sparked backlash from users who had turned to Claude over privacy and surveillance concerns.

  • The company says the checks apply only in a small number of cases tied to access to certain capabilities, platform integrity checks, or suspected fraudulent or abusive behavior; verification is handled through Persona, which stores the documents, while Anthropic says the data is encrypted, excluded from model training, and not shared for marketing.

  • The move deepens concerns because it adds sensitive identity checks to a platform already criticized for mistaken account suspensions, region-based restrictions, and stricter moderation, while also reviving fears about third-party custody of personal documents after high-profile breaches such as Discord’s 2025 exposure of roughly 70,000 government IDs.

X rolls out ‘Cashtags’ for in-timeline crypto and stock data

By Timmy Shen via The Block

  • X has launched Cashtags, a feature that lets users tap stock or crypto symbols to see real-time price charts and related posts directly inside the app.

  • The rollout is currently limited to iPhone users in the U.S. and Canada, with Android, web, and broader international availability still to come.

  • For now, Cashtags is mainly a market data and discovery tool, though Canadian users can also tap through to Wealthsimple for a one-touch trading flow, signaling X’s broader push to blend social feeds with financial services.

𝕏: 𝕏 has always been the best source of financial news for traders and investors. Billions of dollars are allocated every day based on what people read on Timeline. Today we’re launching our new Cashtags feature in the US and Canada on iPhone, bringing real-time financial data to X. - Nikita Bier (@nikitabier)

Google ships its most expressive Gemini 3.1 text-to-speech model yet with 70+ language support

By Matthias Bastian via The Decoder

  • Google has launched Gemini 3.1 Flash TTS, its most expressive text-to-speech model yet, with support for 70+ languages, multi-speaker dialogue, and audio tags that let developers control style, tempo, tone, and accent.

  • On Artificial Analysis, the model posts an Elo rating of 1,211, outperforming ElevenLabs v3 on overall quality while trailing only Inworld 1.5 Max, with pricing positioned as a strong quality-to-cost play.

  • The model is available in preview through the Gemini API, Vertex AI, Google Vids, and AI Studio; it includes a free tier that allows Google to use data for product improvement, while paid usage starts at $1 per million text tokens and $20 per million audio tokens, with all output marked by SynthID watermarking.

𝕏: Introducing Gemini 3.1 Flash TTS 🗣️, our latest text to speech model with scene direction, speaker level specificity, audio tags, more natural + expressive voices, and support for 70 different languages. Available via our new audio playground in AI Studio and in the Gemini API! - Logan Kilpatrick (@OfficialLoganK)

Introducing Claude Opus 4.7

Claude

  • Anthropic is positioning Claude Opus 4.7 as a major upgrade for developer and agent workflows, with stronger planning, better self-correction, faster execution, and improved honesty about missing data or model limits.

  • Across a long list of partner and internal benchmarks, Claude Opus 4.7 is described as outperforming Opus 4.6 on complex coding, long-context reasoning, tool use, multimodal understanding, and multi-step autonomous work, with reported gains in areas like CI/CD, code review, document analysis, legal work, finance, and research agents.

  • The launch narrative leans heavily on third-party validation from companies including Ramp, Replit, Notion, Cursor, Databricks, Vercel, and Rakuten, all pointing to the same theme: Claude Opus 4.7 is more reliable on long-running tasks, makes fewer tool errors, and is increasingly being framed as a true agentic coworker rather than just a chatbot.

𝕏: Some of my favorite things in Opus 4.7: - Very good at async work and following instructions - Effort levels are far more predictable for token control (+ new xhigh level) - No more downscaling of high-res images - Noticeably more taste in UIs, slides, docs - Alex Albert (@alexalbert__)

Amazon bets on Shenzhen smart warehouse to cut storage costs by 45 per cent

By Iris Deng via South China Morning Post

  • Amazon has opened its first Global Warehousing and Distribution center in Shenzhen, creating an all-in-one logistics hub for Chinese sellers shipping to US customers.

  • The facility handles storage, customs clearance, cross-border shipping, and inventory transfers after goods leave the factory, simplifying a process merchants previously had to manage on their own.

  • Amazon says the model can cut storage costs for Chinese merchants by up to 45%, as it tries to hold onto sellers amid intensifying competition from Temu, Shein, and TikTok Shop, with expansion planned for the Yangtze River Delta, Europe, and Japan.
