iOS 18 adding default app controls for messaging, phone calls, navigation, and more in the EUΒ
By Chance Miller via 9to5Mac
Apple is expanding default app controls in iOS 18 for the EU, allowing users to set defaults for messaging, phone calls, navigation, and more.
New options will allow users to delete additional first-party apps like Safari, Messages, and the App Store.
Changes to the browser choice screen include new design features and improved user control over selecting default browsers.
π: Exactly. Like. We. Said. Phil, You could have just redistributed the commission and allowed links. Apple would have kept control and profits. Now itβs a god damn mess. Waisting billions of dev hours, worse for users, and worse for Apple. - Ryan Jones (@rjonesy)
Uber teams up with Cruise to deliver more autonomous rides next yearΒ
By Jay Peters via The Verge
Uber will partner with Cruise to offer autonomous rides in its app starting next year, expanding its driverless service options.
The multiyear strategic partnership will allow Uber users to select Cruise's autonomous vehicles for "qualifying" rides.
The service is expected to launch in cities where Cruise is currently conducting supervised testing, including Phoenix, Dallas, and Houston.
π: Post-ZIRP Uber is making all the right moves. Instead of burning billions in R&D on self driving cars then having to maintain a fleet of them, lean into your business model by being the platform for booking rides for Waymo & Cruise. Remain a taxi company that owns no cars. - Dare Obasanjo (@Carnage4Life)
