AMD says Microsoft's next big Windows 11 update will improve Zen 5 CPU performance
By Tom Warren via The Verge
AMD confirms that the upcoming Windows 11 version 24H2 update will optimize performance for its Zen 5 CPUs, addressing previous underwhelming results.
The update is expected to boost Ryzen 9000 series performance, with a predicted 13% improvement in Far Cry 6 and 7% in Cyberpunk 2077 compared to the current 23H2 version.
Reviewers initially found minimal gains between the new Ryzen 9 9950X and its predecessor, but AMD asserts that the 24H2 update will deliver substantial enhancements across Zen 3, Zen 4, and Zen 5 architectures.

The Silicon Valley Canon: On the Paıdeía of the American Tech Elite
The Scholars Stage
Silicon Valley technologists value broad intellectual engagement over specialized expertise, contrasting with Washington DC's focus on narrow, deep knowledge.
The vague tech canon in Silicon Valley includes diverse books that shape the mindset of the tech elite, emphasizing great men and big ideas.
These technologists often read widely and discuss topics ranging from philosophy to science fiction, creating a culture that treasures action and novel insights.

Neuralink Says Second Brain Device Implant 'Went Well'
By Sarah McBride via Bloomberg
Neuralink successfully performed its second brain implant in a human, enabling the patient to design 3D objects and play video games like Counter-Strike 2.
The surgery addressed issues from the first implant, specifically avoiding the complication of electrode threads retracting from the brain.
The procedure is considered a significant step forward for Elon Musk's brain-computer interface company.

Stadiums Are Embracing Face Recognition. Privacy Advocates Say They Should Stick to Sports
By Caroline Haskins via WIRED
MLB and NFL stadiums are increasingly adopting facial recognition technology for express entry, raising significant concerns among privacy advocates.
Protesters argue that these systems pose serious privacy and safety risks, including the potential for misuse by law enforcement and the unnecessary expansion of surveillance at public events.
While companies like Wicket defend the technology as opt-in and secure, activists emphasize that alternatives like RFID or Bluetooth could achieve similar goals without compromising privacy.
Microsoft to roll out Windows Recall to Insiders in October
By Sergiu Gatlan via BleepingComputer
Microsoft will begin rolling out its AI-powered Windows Recall feature to Insiders with Copilot+ PCs in October, enabling users to search for screenshots using natural language.
Windows Recall has faced significant privacy and security concerns, prompting Microsoft to make it an opt-in feature with encrypted data accessible only after Windows Hello authentication.
Despite initial delays due to customer pushback, Microsoft is committed to prioritizing security in the preview version and will leverage feedback from the Windows Insider community.
