Windows Security best practices for integrating and managing security tools
By David Weston via Microsoft Security Blog
Windows Security provides integrated and flexible security features, allowing the use of approved software, integrated security monitoring, and third-party security tools.
The CrowdStrike outage was caused by a memory safety issue in the CSagent driver, highlighting the importance of kernel-mode drivers for visibility, performance, and tamper resistance in security solutions.
Windows 11 includes numerous default security features, such as Secure Boot, Memory Integrity, and BitLocker, to enhance security and reliability, while Microsoft collaborates with security vendors to ensure product compatibility and performance.

The AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 Review: Unleashing Zen 5 and RDNA 3.5 Into Notebooks
By Gavin Bonshor via AnandTech
AMD Ryzen AI 300 series introduces the Zen 5 microarchitecture and RDNA 3.5 graphics, combining performance and efficiency cores to enhance CPU performance and power efficiency in notebooks.
The ASUS Zenbook S 16 (2024) features the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 SoC with 12 CPU cores, RDNA 3.5 integrated graphics, a 16-inch Lumina OLED display, 32 GB LPDDR5 memory, and advanced AI-driven software, priced at $1699.
Zen 5 architecture in the Ryzen AI 300 series offers a 16% IPC uplift over Zen 4, optimized memory management, and improved integrated graphics, aiming to balance performance and power efficiency in mobile environments.
π: And so the Zen 5 era begins. I expect this will get lost in the noise of the launch, but I find AMD's decision to do a mobile-first launch remarkable. This is a first for the company. It goes to show how they're catching up to market trends, and improving on their mobile chips - Ryan Smith (@RyanSmithAT)

Guracha Belachew Bersha was enslaved for 16 months by a criminal empire run by Chinese gangsters, forcing trafficked individuals to scam people online.
The scams, known as pig butchering, involve gaining victims' trust before stealing their money and abandoning them.
In late December, Bersha led a small rebellion against his captors in Mae Sot, Thailand, highlighting the plight of those trafficked for cyber fraud.

Neo-Nazis and white supremacists are using TikTok to share Hitler-related propaganda and recruit new members, exploiting the platform's algorithm to reach younger audiences, according to a report by the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD).
These extremist accounts openly post videos promoting Holocaust denial, glorification of Hitler, and support for white supremacist mass shooters, often using Nazi symbols in profiles and usernames to spread their message.
Despite TikTok's efforts to remove hateful content, including a team of 40,000 trust and safety professionals, the platform continues to be exploited by extremists, who use coded language and other tactics to evade moderation.
Electric Cars Help the Climate. But Are They Good Value?Β
By Jack Ewing via The New York Times
Electric vehicles cost more upfront than gasoline cars and may depreciate faster, but their long-term savings on fuel and maintenance, along with federal battery warranties, make them a potentially wise investment.
Battery longevity is generally good, with federal guarantees and slow degradation; anecdotal evidence suggests batteries can outlast the cars themselves, and they retain value due to recyclable materials like lithium and cobalt.
Despite fluctuating resale values, newer electric vehicles with longer-range batteries are holding their value better, and leasing can mitigate depreciation risks; environmental benefits and lower emissions are significant but harder to quantify financially.
