New MIT CSAIL study suggests that AI won't steal as many jobs expected. Will AI automate human jobs, and — if so — which jobs and when? That’s the trio of questions a new research study from MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), out this morning, tries to answer. There’s been many attempts to extrapolate out and project how the AI technologies of today, like large language models, might impact people’s’ livelihoods — and whole economies — in the future. iOS 17.3 is out, adding Stolen Device Protection for your iPhone. iOS 17.3 is out, and it comes with a new security feature that's supposed to prevent thieves from taking your iPhone and quickly taking over access to anything stored in iCloud as well as other important accounts like your bank or email. 𝕏: iOS 17.3 is out with support for the new Unity Bloom wallpaper and watch face. I still haven't found where in the Unity Bloom watch face the new Rhizome font lettering is used. Only "A B C D G L M P R" letters are included. It looks like most of the font contains flowers. I wonder why they chose to ship the watch face assets inside of a typeface if they don't seem to be using it in a text field or label. - Steve Moser (@SteveMoser)

What's next for robotaxis in 2024. However, other perils loom. Robotaxi companies need to make a return on the vast sums that have been invested into getting them up and running. Until robotaxis become cheaper, they can't meaningfully compete with conventional taxis and Uber. Yet at the same time, if companies try to increase adoption too fast, they risk following in Cruise’s footsteps. By Zeyi Yang via MIT Technology Review
This Chinese Startup Is Winning the Open Source AI Race. Meta shook up the race to build more powerful artificial intelligence last July by releasing Llama 2, an AI model similar to the one behind ChatGPT, for anyone to download and use. In November, a little-known startup from Beijing, 01.AI, released its own open source model that outperforms Llama 2 and scores near the top of many leaderboards used to compare the power of AI models.
