Former Facebook executive tells Senate committee company undermined US national security with China
By Barbara Ortutay via AP News
Sarah Wynn-Williams, former Facebook executive, told the Senate Judiciary Committee that Meta jeopardized U.S. national security by secretly briefing China on American AI efforts and deleting dissident accounts under Beijing pressure.
In her testimony and best-selling book Careless People, Wynn-Williams accused Meta of using deception, intimidation, and censorship to expand its $18B China business, while ignoring data security warnings.
Meta denies the allegations, calling them false and outdated, as the company faces an impending antitrust trial that could force it to divest Instagram and WhatsApp.

Inside NSO's WhatsApp hack: $40 million in profit and 1,223 global targets
By Omer Kabir via CTech
NSO Group exploited a WhatsApp vulnerability to deploy Pegasus spyware against 1,223 individuals across 51 countries, generating up to $40.24 million in profit, according to unsealed documents from Meta’s lawsuit.
A U.S. federal court ruled in favor of Meta, rejecting NSO's defenses and confirming the company targeted journalists and human rights activists, with the highest number of victims in Mexico, India, Bahrain, and Morocco.
Internal records show efforts to market Pegasus to U.S. law enforcement were unsuccessful, while evidence suggests at least one U.S.-based phone was compromised, raising concerns about unauthorized use within U.S. territory.
𝕏: NEW: A recently published court document shows the locations of WhatsApp victims targeted with NSO Group's spyware. The document lists 1,223 victims in 51 countries, including Mexico, India, United Kingdom, United States, etc. This was over a span of ~ two months in 2019. - Lorenzo Franceschi-Bicchierai (@lorenzofb)

Google says it'll embrace Anthropic's standard for connecting AI models to data
By Kyle Wiggers via TechCrunch
Google will adopt Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol (MCP), joining OpenAI in supporting the emerging open standard for linking AI models to data systems.
MCP enables two-way connections between AI applications and data sources like business tools, content repositories, and developer environments, facilitating more dynamic, context-aware AI interactions.
Companies including Block, Apollo, Replit, Codeium, and Sourcegraph have already integrated MCP since it was open sourced, signaling growing industry alignment around the standard.
𝕏: MCP is a good protocol and it's rapidly becoming an open standard for the AI agentic era. We're excited to announce that we'll be supporting it for our Gemini models and SDK. Look forward to developing it further with the MCP team and others in the industry - Demis Hassabis (@demishassabis)
Why diverse teams are the future of the Tech industry
By Maria Losyukova via TechRadar
Diverse teams drive superior outcomes in tech, with studies showing they boost financial performance, innovation, and decision-making speed—companies in the top gender-diverse quartile are 21% more likely to be profitable.
Gender diversity strengthens product-market fit and brand reputation, enabling tech companies to design more inclusive products, connect with broader customer bases, and attract top talent amid industry-wide retention challenges.
