Microsoft is cutting up to 9,100 jobs—about 4% of its workforce—in a major layoff wave hitting its Xbox division and other gaming units like King, Zenimax, and Rare, where the game Everwild has reportedly been canceled.
The move follows multiple rounds of layoffs over the past year, including cuts to Activision Blizzard, HoloLens, Azure, and previous Xbox staff, with over 6,000 jobs already eliminated in recent months.
Xbox head Phil Spencer said the cuts are aimed at boosting agility and focusing on “strategic growth areas,” while impacted employees will receive severance, healthcare, and job placement support.
