Introducing next-generation audio models in the API
OpenAI
OpenAI launched next-generation speech-to-text and text-to-speech models in the API, enabling developers to create more intelligent, customizable voice agents.
The new gpt-4o-transcribe models outperform Whisper in transcription accuracy, especially in difficult audio conditions like accents, noise, and variable speech speeds.
The gpt-4o-mini-tts model allows developers to control tone and speaking style, unlocking expressive, persona-driven voice outputs for applications like customer support and storytelling.

Anthropic adds web search to its Claude chatbot
By Kyle Wiggers via TechCrunch
Anthropic has added web search capabilities to its chatbot Claude, now available in preview for paid U.S. users, with broader rollout to follow; the feature works exclusively with the Claude 3.7 Sonnet model.
Claude now delivers responses with real-time insights and inline citations from sources like NPR, Reuters, and X, putting it on par with rivals like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Le Chat.
While the feature boosts Claude's utility, concerns remain about hallucinations and misinformation, echoing findings that AI chatbots give incorrect answers in over 60% of search-related queries.

How NASA's 'Autonomy Choreography' Will Impact Advanced Technologies
By Tara Friesen via NASA
NASA’s Data & Reasoning Fabric (DRF) enables secure, real-time data sharing and coordination across autonomous systems, allowing machines from different developers to operate seamlessly—transforming industries like transportation, logistics, and mining.
Originally designed for autonomous aviation, DRF is being tested in real-world scenarios such as drone delivery of medical supplies in Phoenix and cross-communication among mining vehicles developed by different companies.
NASA envisions DRF choreographing autonomous systems not only on Earth, but also in lunar operations, synchronizing equipment from multiple vendors for safer, more efficient missions.
Google finds 10,000 fake listings on Google Maps, sues alleged network of scammers
By Kara Fellows via CBS News
Google has filed a lawsuit after uncovering over 10,000 fake business listings on Google Maps, allegedly part of a coordinated scam network.
The scheme involved fraudulent profiles impersonating real businesses to deceive consumers and exploit trust in Google’s platform.
The lawsuit targets what Google describes as a “deliberate and malicious” network of scammers, aiming to protect both users and legitimate businesses.
Threads finally lets you set the following feed as default
By Tom Warren via The Verge
Threads now allows users to set the “Following” feed or any custom feed as default, finally delivering a top user request since the app’s launch in December 2023.
Users can now limit replies and quote-posts to followers only, giving them more control over who interacts with their posts.
Meta is also adding topics in user bios (up to 10) and rolling out a revamped video player with skip, play/pause, and a persistent progress bar.
